Chicago Police Officers Shot & Killed a Criminal

CHICAGO (WLS)--Chicago police say officers shot and killed a man on the city's Southeast Side after he reportedly took three people hostage in a robbery attempt at an auto shop.

Officers were called to the parts store on South Ewing Avenue Saturday evening, and say that when they arrived, the suspect took the three people hostage.

The Hostage and Barricade team and SWAT responded, and the man, 24-year-old Rigoberto Lopez, reportedly fired several shots at officers, who returned fire and struck him fatally.

The incident was over by 2:30 a.m. No one else was injured.

Chicago Police Officer John Henry says the Independent Police Review Authority is investigating whether the shooting was within guidelines.

It's really scary when criminals take innocent people hostage like this guy did.  I think that he definitely deserved to be shot and killed for putting others lives into jeopardy
