Today, my cousin called me and told me that there was some sort of death threat at her high school (Morton West). She heard that a note was found saying there would be more deaths than the columbine tragedy, and she didn't find this out until she went to school. The school still had classes though, but I guess the students were able to leave if they wanted to, which my cousin did. This is really scary because it can happen anywhere, also it is about 10 minutes from my house and the fact that my cousin goes there makes it worse for me to imagine. I think the school should have notified the students and staff and just cancelled classes for the day, because if there's any risk at all of some sort of danger to everyone, they should not even be allowed there. Here is the article:
CICERO, Ill. -- There is a heightened police presence Monday at two west suburban high schools as police investigate a threat made by a text message and possibly on a MySpace page. The schools -- Morton East High in Cicero and Morton West High in Berwyn -- are open and classes are being held, but "we've added police presence at both schools," Cicero spokesman Dan Proft said. Police have also brought K-9 units to the schools and there will be an administrative locker search at the end of the school day, Proft said. "School is proceeding, just with heightened security." Students are not being allowed into the halls alone, for instance, he said. Nonetheless, if parents or students are concerned about safety, school officials are allowing students to take the day off. Proft said the investigation centers around a threat made via a text message "and perhaps MySpace." Police in Cicero and Berwyn "are working to identify the threat, the credibility level and who made those threats initially," Proft said.

Funny thing is that i live in Bridgeview. Morton High School is right down Harlem from me and the funny thing i have been there many times for wrestling. It just scares me that I've been there before and i haven't even thought about the neighborhood i was in.
