Crime in Chicago

CHICAGO -- A suburban teen has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing a couple as they slept in their Chicago apartment.
Seventeen-year-old Julius Flournoy of Des Plaines faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of home invasion.
Police say Flournoy broke into the sleeping couple's North Side apartment early Sunday morning and stabbed them. He was arrested at the scene.
He is scheduled to appear in bond court Monday.

What is this world coming to? It's not a good sign for society when a teenager breaks into an innocent couple's home and stabs them to death for no apparent reason....

Do they say why he did it?! Or was he just a burgler? I don't know what goes through people's minds when they decide to break into someones house and kill them and steal their stuff? Society tends to put the blame on mental disorders, but I feel like it's not possible for all of them to be. Do they thing they aren't going to get caught?

Not sure if this thread is still visited, but the sleeping couple were my friends and I thought I could provide an update. This case is finally going to trial, more than 3 years after the event. Both victims recovered and are providing testimony this week. The assailant was not in any way related to the victims, he simply intended to rob the apartment but began stabbing them after he discovered a knife in their fishing gear. It was a shock, and we cannot thank enough the neighbors who responded to the incident and saved lives.
